“Love of the Resurrection in God”

In today's gospel, Jesus said "I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me will live even if he dies." (John 11:25) Do we really understand the meaning of Resurrection? One may simply say that resurrection is when a living being comes back to life after death. It's one thing to make such an assertion, it's another to back it up - and back it up Jesus did, by rising from the dead. We know that Jesus died and rose again and this guarantees that God will bring us up and out of the ground. A thinking, remembering, recognizable person will live forever. Living forever means living the thought of eternity that God has placed in our hearts. When there is resurrection, there is life. Without Christ, there would have been no resurrection at the end of time.

When Lazarus died, Martha went to Jesus and said "Lord, if you have been here my brother would not have died." (Verse 21) Mary also said this to Jesus (see verse 32). It implies that they knew Jesus could do miracles, even saving someone from death. And when Jesus saw Mary weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. Jesus wept (verse 35). His tears show His humanity and His deity. He came to show God's love and mercy, to reveal how God cares for us. When He stated that He is the resurrection and the life, He meant that He has the power to raise the dead, and Lazarus was resurrected. Jesus asked Martha earlier an important question, "Do you believe this?" Martha answered "Yes Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God who was to come into the world." May her answer be ours as well. Our Lord Jesus endured pain because of His love. And if we believe, we will see the glory of God.
