“The Family of God: In the Yoke Obeying Jesus”

"Come to Me all who are weary and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me for I am gentle and humble in heart. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

This is one of the most comforting Bible verses we know. It strengthens our faith, gives hope, and shows love. Our Lord Jesus invited all who labor and are heavy laden to come to Him. The greatest blessing bestowed upon believers is to be a part of the family of God. As members of His family, He gives us assurance that His 'yoke is easy' and His 'burden is light'. When Jesus asks us to follow Him, His call comes with the promise of protection, guidance, sustenance and rest. His call is suited to our needs because He knows us well.

How can His yoke be easy and His burden light? Does it mean we will do nothing at all? It is a matter of ‘Let Go and Let God.’ Let go of our worries, cast our cares upon Him and allow Him to lead us in a direction set by Him. Many of us are already exhausted and worn out in life. But we must come as a servant under the discipline of a master. It involves obedience. If there is no condemnation for those in Christ (Romans 8:1), and our salvation is not in jeopardy, why should people struggle to obey? We are God's children and we are to do what the Father commands.
