"Walking in Rescue Missions"

It is a common experience of our human nature that we don't want losing something that we once had. Especially if it is so valuable and cherish it a lot. We feel sad if this happens. More so, for our God, He cares so much for His people and He knows whether we are saved or lost. The reading in Luke 15:1-10 reveal the character of our God, extending mercy to the undeserving and the hurting. The message of Love. When I read about the parables of the Lost sheep and the Lost Coin, I can't help to read it over again. I can't help myself into the story as a sheep and as a coin, the lost one. When I came to find Jesus as my Saviour, I feel that I am home. The spiritual meaning of these parables is applicable to all of us. Our Lord Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10).

How we view these parables has a lot to do with how we view the church's mission. Do we have a passion for the lost? The true followers of Christ are the ones who will follow Him not just to the cross but to the field and everywhere just to search for the one so precious to God. There's no doubt that we help and take care of the needs of the active members who gathered into our congregation. But how about those who seem to drop out of the regular attendance? Do we care? Who goes and searches for them and know the reason for their straying? How about the spiritual welfare of those who are hurting? Are we the rescuer personality type of person that is conscious to help people out of a difficult situation? Everyone needs a little bit of help every now and then. Sometimes we are too comfortable and too busy.

When a soul is lost, the soul is missed. When the soul is brought back, it calls for a celebration. Our God is the God of the lost and the God who celebrates when the lost is found. If God had refused to release Jesus to die for us, we would have been the sheep or the coin that is lost forever having no hope of reconciliation. For we too have been found by God, we too have been the focus of the search and rescue mission. God will never stop loving us even if we run away from Him. God rejoices, angels rejoice when a sinner repents. In Luke 15:7 & 10 say, "In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents". Our Lord Jesus is in search-rescue mission. Is it yours? Is it ours? May we learn to be compassionate towards all those who are lost in this world.
