“Faithless or Falling?”

Hebrews 3: 12: “Take care, brethren, lest there should be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, in falling away from the living God.” The danger here is not in the sin of unbelief, the penalty for which has been taken away in Christ. (“If we are faithless, He remains faithful”, 2 Timothy 13) The far more disastrous thing is the result of unbelief: the falling away from God. Falling away from God is its own curse, and leads to all kinds of misery and pain. He will never leave us, but if we, through unbelief, leave him … “If we deny Him, He will also deny us.” (2 Timothy 2: 12b) Don’t go there!
