“Real Zeal”

John 2: 15, 17: “He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the moneychangers, and overturned their tables … His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for Your house will consume Me.’” This story is in all four gospels, and never once does it say that Jesus was angry, mad, or even a little pissed; however, John tells us that His motivation was zeal. Zeal is passion, in this case a passion for righteousness. The scriptures forbid anger in many places; why would Jesus violate His own word? But He did fulfill Psalm 69: 9.
