April 10, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted.” (Exodus 16:3)

This claim of the Israelites who grumbled against Moses was not exactly the case. It was more of a delusion rather than the truth. They actually were slaves in Egypt who just before leaving, were subjected to harsher slave labor and forced to gather straw for the bricks they were making for Pharaoh. When they failed to meet the quota, they were beaten. That’s not similar to enjoying a meat buffet.

That’s what temptation does; it hides the ugly truth of bondage and presents it in attractive packaging and blinds us from the blessing of God’s deliverance and future promises. It becomes stronger when we encounter trials and hardship and causes us to look for someone to blame. Let us guard our hearts and echo Saint Paul’s prayer for the eyes of our heart may be enlightened, so that we may know the hope of His calling, the glorious riches of His inheritance, and the surpassing greatness of His power toward those who believe.
