April 13, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“A time is coming, and in fact has come, when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with Me.” (John 16:32)

“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” is one of Jesus’ famous seven last words. Some think this means His Father abandoned Him just like most of His disciples did. They’re wrong.

At the Last Supper, Jesus tells the apostles in advance that they will leave Him but that He will not be alone because His Father is with Him. That’s the nature of God. He never gives up on us nor forsakes us. He does not abandon us in our present or future Sheols because He already descended to the realm of the dead and rescued those who made their bed there. Now we can see death as just a door on the other side of which is the Lord of Life waiting for us. Because His love is so great that not even death can separate us from it.
