Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

We are told that when we see a "therefore," we have to read before the "therefore" to know what the "therefore" is there for.

The reason believers are commissioned to make disciples is because all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus. That means there is a new sheriff in town and the foundation of His government is righteousness and justice. Therefore, in order for the citizens of the world to flourish in His kingdom, they should change their old ways and follow His. That's what repentance means and we are to preach it so that all men can have fullness of life under His rule.
