August 16, 2022 Daily Dose of Discernment

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem … “May peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces.” For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good. (Psalm 122:6-7, 9)

The new Israel, and the new Jerusalem, is the Church. It encompasses all men of every race and nation. To us then, the words of the Psalm above must be understood in light of the Church of Jesus Christ.

But more than just understanding, we should have the zeal of the Psalmist for the house of the Lord and it should likewise consume us. That zeal should not be changed by any circumstance or situation, pandemic or new normal. We should never stop praying for the peace and prosperity of the Church of which we have been called to be active and productive members. And we should never cease seeking its good, even to our own hurt.
