August 2, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.” (Matthew 28:10)

The disciples of Jesus were trembling in trepidation after He died. Being associated with Him, they could be on the Sanhedrin most wanted list and feared for their life. That feeling is coupled with the guilt of having abandoned their Master. Imagine their distress when they heard He was risen. How would they face Him?

The constant message from heaven, and seemingly Jesus' favorite, is "Do not be afraid." It is meant to encourage people especially in times of turmoil. That is the good news He told the women who first saw their risen Lord to relay to His disciples. That is what we should hear Him trying hard to say to us when we're anxious.
