“Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.” (John 6:26)
If someone at an all-you-can-eat restaurant ignorantly thinks that what they see on the buffet tables are all there is, their tendency is to get as much for themselves as they can before others do. And they will fill their plates with more than they can consume to make sure they are not without. What they don’t know is that there is more in the kitchen where the food comes from. If they are aware of that, they will be considerate of others and just get a little at a time. Then, what they will get when they go back for more will be fresher.
If we look at the provision rather than the source, we will act like panic-buyers who hoard for themselves and are closefisted. But if we know that there is a Source from Whom all blessings flow, that the Lord is our Shepherd Who provides for our wants, we will not be anxious. Let us not exchange this truth for the lie of scarcity and ascribe value to created things rather than their Creator. For then we will free ourselves from worry and experience the peace of God.
