December 20, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Go and tell John the things you hear and see: The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Matthew 11:4-5)

The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, of dietary and ceremonial do's and don'ts. But it's mainly about righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Where the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame walk, the dead live again, and the poor hear the good news, there is God's kingdom. Citizens of this kingdom are called to manifest it “till all creation lives and learns His joy, his justice, love and praise.”

This means we have a job to do. There is a microcosm of the kingdom of God that Jesus established. It's called the local church. Respond to His calling and actively participate in its life and work.
