“From now on all generations will call me blessed.” (Luke 1:48)

Mary's pregnancy was a huge controversy. Joseph, to whom she was betrothed but never lay with, was an honorable man and did not want to disgrace her publicly. So he decided to divorce her secretly. She was going to carry this burden her whole life yet she was willing to pay the price of being used by God even if she didn’t fully understand His plan. To her, it was a blessing rather than a curse. She was absolutely right.

Saying yes to God always comes with a price. It certainly entails a denial of self and the carrying of our own cross. However, the suffering is nothing compared to the resulting joy. Mary knew that. Because of her submission to God’s will, she has been and will continue to be called blessed by all future generations and forever blesses them as well. Her obedience will be a powerful example to her Son's followers for all time.
