And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)
Because of the influence of the ancient Greeks, many people, including Christians, hope to live for eternity as spiritual beings in an alternative utopia after death. This while God becomes man to be forever human in a fallen and broken world which He promises to revive and mend. We want to escape the mess we are in because we don't know His restorative plan. He won’t stop until He gets His beloved creation back to its original goodness. We're going back to Eden, only new and improved. Quoting myself from an old post, we see the ugliness of our humanity, He sees its beauty; we hate it, He loves it; we want to escape from it, He wants to reclaim it.
God became flesh and dwelt among us. That's what Christmas is. He became man while still being God so that of His fullness we may all receive. So now we are restored to being partakers of the divine nature of God just like when we were created. The rest of creation as well will be reinstated to its pristine beauty. It may take some time but it has started and is a done deal. That indeed is good news of great joy!
