December 3, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment
We had previously suffered and been treated outrageously ... but with the help of our God we dared to tell you His gospel in the face of strong opposition. (1 Thessalonians 2:2)
Opposition is a harsh reality in ministry. Sadly, it's internal and external. The Bible gives us a heads up on this so we should not be surprised. It also encourages us to consider it joy that we are counted worthy to suffer for the sake of the gospel. We should likewise be aware that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against evil forces in the unseen realm who incite humans to continue to sin, in their desire to stop the increase of the heavenly kingdom of righteousness and justice. Understanding this and applying the opposite force of good will make us prevail with God's help.
Still, all in all, the present sufferings are nothing compared to the tremendous joy of the Lord that is ours now when we say yes to His calling. At the same time, we anticipate its blissful fullness, which we can only imagine, in the life of the world to come. So endure to the end. It's more than worth it.
