December 30 , 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

On this mountain God will destroy the veil that covers all nations …; He will destroy death forever. The Lord God will wipe away every tear from every face. He will take away the shame of His people from the earth. The Lord has spoken. (Isaiah 25:7-8)

Isaiah 25 is the Old Testament reading in our funeral liturgy. I love preaching its message. It envisions a day when God finally and completely tramples down that which imprisons all people in fear - death. Romans 8, the New Testament reading backs it up and says that nothing can separate us from the love of God, not even death.

The Christmas song says Jesus was born that man no more may die. Our salvation may have been accomplished by His death and resurrection, but it began at His birth. God becoming human in order to give His life to restore ours is the greatest gift of all man can ever receive. Joy to the world!
