Luke 12: 52, 53: “From now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two, and two against three. They will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Anyone who thinks, “That doesn’t sound like God” doesn’t know the Scriptures very well. Division is one of God’s favorite strategies in warfare (1 Samuel 14: 20 and 2 Chronicles 20: 22, 23, among many others), and David prays for it to be upon his enemies (Psalm 55: 9). These very words of Christ, quoted more thoroughly in Matthew 10: 34-36, are a quote from Micah 7: 6, when this division is inflicted by God as a curse and judgment against His rebellious people. It’s not to be sought after, and it’s certainly not a blessing, but division is something God sometimes uses to fulfill His purposes. Just think about that for a while, and apply where it applies.
