February 12, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

Do nothing from factional motives (through contentiousness, strife, selfishness) or empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility let each regard others as better than himself. (Philippians 2:3)

Some say quarrels happen because of a breakdown in communication. While that is true, the root is much deeper. Pride and conceit get in the way and won’t consider other people as more important. The root of strife is self-centeredness more than misunderstanding.

Jesus did not regard being equal with God as something to be asserted, but subordinated His own interests to the interests of man who couldn’t deserve it less. Therefore, His Father, consistent with the way it is in His kingdom, highly exalted Him. That humble attitude is what we are instructed to have.
