February 15, 2021: Daily Dose of Discernment

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

The gospel for yesterday was an account of the transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain. The disciples saw His countenance shine and His garments become radiant. They beheld God’s glory in the face of Christ. That divine and glorious nature is full in Him but not in us. But we get an infusion of it every time we have an encounter with Him through prayer, meditation on His word, the Eucharist and other sacraments, by participating in the work of the church, ministering to the least of His brothers, or struggling with adversity and experiencing His grace through it. God provides these ways for us to become conformed to the image of His Son. Let us make use of them because as Christmas and Epiphany remind us, we, His representatives on earth, are called to also be an incarnation of His divine nature and manifest it to the world so that they too can taste and see the goodness of the Lord through us.
