February 15, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

I don’t mean to say I am perfect ... but I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ saved me for and wants me to be. (Philippians 3:12)

The question of whether we are saved by faith alone or by faith and works is answered by the aptly worded paraphrase above. Jesus is our Savior because we cannot earn our salvation. Therefore, we don’t live godly lives to obtain it, but because that is why He saved us - to walk in good works which God prepared beforehand.

Eternal life is not something we secure; it’s something God intended for us from the beginning. It’s the God-kind of life we were created to have. When we lost it due to sin, His restoration of it was an even more precious gift. We show Him how much we appreciate and value it by living it.
