February 24, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? (1 Corinthians 4:7)

Before entering into the Promised Land where they could expect to prosper, the Israelites were warned about thinking it’s their own ability that makes them amass riches and forgetting that it is God who gives ability to make wealth.

Today, we are likewise being cautioned. There is nothing we have that God has not given and so we should not boast about what we have as if it’s ours. We are merely stewards. As we observe Lent, let us humbly heed the encouragement to fast, pray and give and shift our focus from self to neighbor. It would help us realize that it is only by God’s grace that we live, move and have our being.
