Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)

Repentance is turning away from sin, yes. But that really is more of an end result, because repentance is the renewing of the mind from conformity to the world to following the ways of the kingdom of God.

Disobedience does not incur punishment from God, but it does lead to destruction. Death is what is earned from sin and disobedience. And so the painful consequence of sin is itself the punishment. But observance of His principles and commandments results in fullness of life.
