February 9, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another. (Romans 13:8)

Some consider sin as a legal issue. Some see it more accurately as a disease all men suffer from. A wise Physician once said that the best medicine for humans is love. When asked what to do if it doesn’t work, he answered, “Increase the dose.”

Paul instructs us to owe no one anything, that we should strive to keep our integrity impeccable. That means diligently paying all our debts and fulfilling all our obligations. At the same time, he encourages us to consider love a never-ending debt we should constantly pay our neighbor, because love is the fulfillment of God’s law. It would do us well if we heed this because in Him, who is love, we live, move and have our being.
