Friday, August 18: “No Time Soon”
Psalm 102: 25, 26: “Of old You founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. Even they perish, but You endure; and all of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.”
Don’t get into a panic! Yes, God says here the earth and the heavens will wear out and perish–but it won’t be anytime soon. It will be at least two ages from now (and if you didn’t know it, that’s a really long time). These verses are meant to contrast the temporal nature of creation, which worship in lieu of God, or turn into a god, with God Himself, Who is eternal and immortal. The scheme to un-deify God is doomed to failure because that which they deify, built by the true deity, will some day be de-commissioned by the same One and Only God.
