Friday, August 23: “What Sign? Really?”

John 6: 30: “So [the multitude] said to [Jesus], What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe you? What work do You perform?”

If you wonder just how great God’s mercy is, consider that the people asking this question had, the day before, witnessed (and participated in) Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand, yet are still looking for Him to show a sign to back His claims. Then consider that He didn’t blast them to smithereens at that moment! That’s patience, longsuffering, but most of all, mercy, which hasn’t abated to this day.
