Friday, August 26: “The Way This Man Speaks”

John 7: 45-46: “The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, ‘Why did you not bring [Jesus]?’ The officers answered, ‘Never has a man spoken the way this Man speaks.’

There was something in the way Jesus spoke, and it wasn’t just His flawless oratory skills. The people could tell that they weren’t just empty words; they meant something. Jesus could speak comforting words about living water (v. 38), but also speak words that brought conviction in His hearers. They came from a heart of compassion, a heart that knew His Father. He said what needed to be said to whomever needed to hear it, and He didn’t back down from the truth. After all, He was the truth.
