Friday, March 15: “A Matter of Perspective VI”

Mark 9: 5: “Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

Peter would have been quite at home in Corinth, with their “I am of Paul, I follow Apollos, I follow Cephas, I am of Christ” understanding of Christianity (1 Corinthians 1: 12). Here on the Mount of Transfiguration, he wants to start a Jesus/Moses/Elijah club–and Moses and Elijah were just passing through town! Even today, there are plenty of ‘Christian superstars’ with their own personal following–often with tabloid-worthy results. While the ‘follow the superstar’ perspective has its proponents, God’s own perspective is “This is My beloved Son–listen to Him!” (v. 7b) Jesus isn’t just a hero, He’s our Savior.
