Friday, November 15: “Apocalyptic Judgment”

Joel 2: 32a: “And it will come about that whoever calls on the Name of the Lord will be delivered.”

In some of the most frightening language in all of apocalyptic literature, language so spine-chilling that it serves as a type for many passages in the Book of Revelation, the prophet Joel has revealed God’s judgment upon those who have repeatedly ignored His words and spurned His Covenant. But even here, He holds out an olive branch of peace, and promises deliverance for whoever would call upon Him. He is God Almighty, Who is to be honored and obeyed in reverence, but never feared in terror.
