“The Limits of Love”

Mark 14: 29, 38: “But Peter said to [Jesus], ‘Even though all may fall away, yet I will not.’ … ‘Keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’”

Jesus would never have taken Peter this far if He didn’t know that he loved Him. In his own mind, Peter had no doubts. However, he (and we) needed to learn two things. One, we will never be able to please God on our own, and two, He already knows our frame, knows both our willing spirits and our weak hearts, and loves us none the less for it. We will never be enough without Christ; with Him, “It is enough.” (v. 41)
