Friday, September 15: “Love + Purpose = Good, Pt. V”
Philippians 3: 8: “More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for Whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ.”
No one likes to lose. We like to win; that’s the way we’re wired. Rather than lose everything, we’d much rather gain, or at least break even. Does God actually turn losing into good? Yes, that’s actually the Gospel. Sell and give. Forsake all and follow. Deny yourself. It doesn’t sound very rewarding, but St. Paul and countless others after him proved that it works. For the lovers and the called (Romans 8: 28), the ultimate prize awaits (v. 14).
