Good Friday, April 7: “Passion of Sacrifice”

Genesis 22: 13: “Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.”

There is a lot of suffering going on in the hearts of the three main characters in this story. Imagine Abraham grieving over the son for whom he had waited so long and loved so much, and was about to lose. Imagine Isaac–do you think he ever looked at his father the same way again? It is certainly doubtful that he ever went with him on any more road trips. But the one who suffered the most was the ram–to the point of death! And we know who this selfless ovine represents, don’t we? Christ’s sacrifice is why we venerate His Passion.
