GROWING IN FAITH
Catechism: An instruction to the faith to equip Christians to follow Jesus as Lord.
The Cathedral of the King recently conducted its first Online Catechism class with the participation of twenty-two catechumens. Through the efforts of our teacher, Bp. Ariel, our facilitators, Dcn. Dennis, Dcn. Ritche, and Dcn Sherwin, and the catechism coordinator EJ Diaz, assisted by Luigi Pepino and Juan Diaz, we all learned so much!
This Catechism was a preparation for Confirmation - one of the seven major sacraments in a Christian’s life. The sessions shed light on the key principles and teachings of the Christian faith: the importance of the Bible, faith and its inner works, the Creeds of the Church, the Sacraments, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Beatitudes. At the end of each session we shared what we had just learned from Bishop Ariel and the facilitators.
Being one of the eldest among the participants, I was already familiar with some of the topics, because they had been taught by my teachers and ministry leaders in the past. However, I still learned more about the importance of faith and the role of being a true Christian. We were able to fully prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation that we experienced on Pentecost Sunday, May 23, and re-affirm with full conviction and understanding our devotion and faith in Jesus Christ. I also made new friends as we discovered together the goodness of God. Attending Catechism class is not just a prequel to the Sacrament of Confirmation; it is an avenue to strengthening one's foundation of faith and love for Almighty God.
