Holy Saturday, March 30: “Trust in the Lord’s Empathy”

Hebrews 4: 15: “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

How could Jesus Christ, the Son of God, be tempted with weakness? Like any other son of man. With the divine Mary Mag’s charms? Probably. With the urge to call down fire from heaven on the Pharisees? More than likely. With the desire to revenge Himself on Judas as He watched him pilfer from the money box–again? Certainly. With knocking Peter upside the head–just for being Peter? Unequivocally. But in all these things, and all others, He was tempted–not fallen. Just so He could sympathize with us, yet remain sinless for us. Trust in that.
