On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, He was named Jesus. (Luke 2:21)
"Jesus" is not a magic word we say to get a wish fulfilled. It means God saves. It is the Messiah's name because He is the salvation of God incarnate.
"In the name of Jesus" then is not meant merely to be a Christianese exclamation but a conviction resulting from a comprehension of the nature of the Son of God which is perfect and infinite goodness that is always directed toward another for their benefit. Or in a single word, love. As bearers of Christ's holy name, let us remember our calling to walk in that very name and embody what it stands for.
