January 14, 2025 Daily Dose of Discernment

Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. (Mark 1:18)

Several decades ago, my boss had me get something from the pharmacy. He found out I stopped by a bookstore on the way. When I got back to the office, he told me what he said was a valuable lesson in life - treat your superior's orders with utmost urgency, emergency or not. The gospel of Mark is replete with the word “immediately.” It is the same adjective used by the author to describe how the first four of Jesus’ apostles responded to His call. They dropped everything at once and followed Him.

How much weight do we give to God's instructions? To the first disciples, it was a no-brainer. It is always top priority. They left their livelihood as soon as He called them. Thank God they did because it changed the world. May we likewise delight to do the will of our Father, and waste no time in obeying it.
