January 3, 2025 Daily Dose of Discernment

“The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

It's schizophrenic to believe that God is the Giver and Sustainer of life on one hand, and that death also comes from Him on the other. Jesus unequivocally states that He, who shares one nature with His Father, comes so that men not only may have life but have it abundantly. It is somebody else, the devil, who kills.

The word that God sends never returns to Him without accomplishing His will. Since Jesus is the ultimate Word of God, and His purpose is for all men to have life in fullness, we can be assured that He will fulfill it. For our own good, and so the process is not unnecessarily delayed, we should yield to Him and not oppose Him as He works in us.
