“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49)
Jesus seemed to understand His Messianic mission at a tender age of twelve. At least He was beginning to. He indicated this in His response to His mother who had lost Him, sought for Him for three days, and found Him at the Temple. His parents were bewildered by what He said about being in His Father’s house and attending to His business. He also showed an aspiration to fulfill His calling.
This confronts the seriousness, or lack thereof, of our being followers of Christ. How aware and eager are we to be where we’re supposed to be, which is God’s house, and what we’re supposed to do, which is concern ourselves with His interests? May we have the attitude of Jesus and the sensitivity and zeal to pursue it.
