July 17, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

God has placed all people into the prison of their own disobedience so that he could be merciful to all people. (Romans 11:32)

Having given them free will, God allowed all men to disobey Him. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, Pharisee and tax collector, called and not called. All have sinned and need to be saved by Him from their sinful ways that lead to destruction. In His compassion, He has mercy on all.

Paul has such an understanding of this that it made him exclaim his famous doxology at the end of Romans 11 and ascribe glory to God for His deep and rich wisdom and unfathomable ways. This infinite, inexhaustible goodness and mercy of the Lord of the universe is the good news we proclaim.
