July 31, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

“Jesus, whom you saw taken up from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you saw Him go.” (Acts 1:11)

There are those who believe that the soon-coming Jesus will return in anger and vengeance because the world will continue to degenerate into sinfulness. His wrath, and that of His Father, will cause the end of the world and the punishment of its inhabitatants. The merciful Lamb will switch into beast mode. Wrong.

Jesus explained to His disciples that it is for their good that He was going to His Father (John 16:7). The angels told them right after He ascended to heaven that He was coming back in the same manner He went. That means when He appears, He will also be as benevolent as He when He first came. Because He is immutable - the same yesterday, today, and forever. If we understand that His nature is love, it will cast out all fear. Instead of dreading, we will wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior and King.
