And you did not despise or disdain the test my flesh gave you. But you welcomed me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. So where is this blessed attitude of yours now? (Galatians 4:14-15)
Paul praises the Galatian for treating him with great forbearance and kindness despite a fleshly weakness. He is talking about a seemingly revolting sickness he had that was a difficulty for them. Then he asks what happened to that attitude of goodwill.
We are instructed not to regard anyone according to the flesh, be it a physical illness or a weakness in character, no matter how exasperating. We should be committed to loving our neighbor as ourselves patiently, following Jesus’ lead. Furthermore, we should not shrink back from it but instead have our godly qualities increasing, for then they would render us neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord. God is at work in us to will and to work according to His good pleasure.
