June 11, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. This is not fair. (Ecclesiastes 8:14)

While it’s true what we sow is what we reap, there are times when we harvest what we did not plant. And when something bad happens to us that we don’t deserve, we feel justified in complaining about it.

But the opposite is true as well. There are good things that come to us that we’re not worthy of. In such cases, what is our attitude? Are we thankful, or do we just take them for granted? If we know God, we would realize that in many times His unmerited blessings far outweigh the injustices that befall us. And even in the midst of things we cannot understand, even though we walk through the valley of the shadow death, He is with us, comforting us and causing all things to work for good. We should learn to count our blessings.
