So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out. (Numbers 13:32)

Corollary to yesterday's reflection, today's deals with having a negative outlook which makes us miss the blessings God intends for us. To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, and they always give a bad report, like the 10 of the 12 spies sent by Moses in the story in the Book of Numbers.

But as ambassadors of God's kingdom, we are to be bearers of glad tidings. So let no unwholesome word proceed from our mouth, but only such as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. And what surely gives grace is God's promise - call it Canaan, the kingdom of God, or the life of the world to come. It's always good news of great joy. Let us proclaim hope for that truth because it doesn't disappoint.
