June 27, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

"To sit on My right and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.” (Matthew 20:23)

The mother of James and John came to Jesus with her two sons and asked that they be seated on either side of Jesus in his kingdom. He detected the greed for power and prestige in their request and the plan to be one up on the rest of the apostles. That's why He said they did not know what they were asking. According to Him, those seats are for citizens of His kingdom who, like their King, serve and don't lord it over their brothers.

The Father has prepared more than two seats for such and is inviting everyone. As many as would follow Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve and to give His life for the sake of others, will be seated in those places.
