“It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God.” (Galatians 2:20)
The fact that this statement of Paul was addressed to Peter, the first Pope, goes to show how significant it is and that we should pay attention to it. Christians, and especially leaders of the church, should be first to realize this. We have been crucified with Christ and have died with Him. The new life we now live is not ours to do whatever we want with, but is to be spent in service of Him who loved us and gave Himself up for us.
No, Christianity is not a life of subservience and misery. On the contrary, it invites us to discover the joy and fulfillment in being servants of the Lord. The truth is that we are servants of whomever we obey. If not Jesus, then someone or something else. The big difference is that He is the only Master who gives us true freedom.
