“Know Your Kingdom”

Luke 16: 8: “And his master praised the unrighteous steward because he had acted shrewdly; for the sons of this age are more shrewd in their relation to their own kind than the sons of light.” Why does God praise unrighteousness and shrewdness in this parable? He doesn’t; this is one of the few parables (the Rich Man and Lazarus is another) where the character of God does not appear. Jesus’ real point is at the end of this verse: The sons of this age know how to work their own kingdom, and the sons of light don’t. If we did, we would be faithful and generous in all our dealings, and not self-centered like the unjust steward.
