“Lack of Recognition”

John 5: 10:“The Jews were saying to him who was cured, ‘It is the Sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.’” This paralytic had sitting in public for thirty-eight years, yet upon seeing him healed the Jews offered him no congratulations, only condemnation. This can mean only one of two things: Either they had never personally gone down into that pit of human suffering, and thus did not recognize him, or their recognition of God’s great power and mercy was obscured by their legalism. Either way, it goes against the Gospel of the One Who had made the man whole.
