March 15, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, have the gift of prophecy, know all mysteries and all knowledge, have all faith, so as to remove mountains, give all my possessions to feed the poor, surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

It is always good to have the gifts of the Spirit and the virtues of a good Christian life. But if they're exercised with a motive other than love, it all amounts to nothing.

During Lent and Holy Week, while we may do certain pious and not so pious things, it would be good to check if we're doing it all for the glory of God. And as one church father said, the glory of God is man fully alive. That is, manifesting His image and likeness and partaking of His divine nature of love.
