“Do not worry about your possessions, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours. Do not quarrel along the way.” (Genesis 45:20-24)

In this particular part of the story of Joseph and his brothers, Egypt represents the abundant provisions of God’s kingdom which are made available to the sons of Israel, God’s people. They are told two things: Do not concern yourself with their possessions because the best of the kingdom is theirs. And because of that, aside from the fact that they are brothers, they don’t need to fight against or be envious of or outdo each other.

Paul tells the Corinthians and us the same thing. That we don’t have to engage in spiritual one-upmanship or boast about our celebrity pastors because all things belong to us, and we belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. We don’t have to be anxious or quarrel.
