“We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.” (Matthew 11:17)
I was taught that not responding when asked a question, especially by elders, is rude. I teach my children the same. Sometimes maybe because of timidity or slothfulness, young people clam up when older people talk to them, causing an uneasiness for both. They need to be trained not just to be polite but to answer questions and address situations that need action on their part, for their own good.
Abundant life is God’s will for us. It’s a free gift. Some obtain it and some don’t. The big difference is not qualification or ability but response. Responding is not meeting a requirement; it’s unlocking a door we’ve already been given the key to. Let us not be rude to God by ignoring the gift He bought with a high price, for our own good.
