May 28, 2024 Daily Dose of Discernment

First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Jesus said all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. If we believe that, we should trust Him. It’s easy to enumerate a lot of injustices and unjust rulers on His watch at any given time, but we should acknowledge that His mission of restoring all things is in progress and that He is not slow in keeping His promise but is patient, not willing that any perish but that all have life. His is an ever-increasing kingdom and one day we will see its fullness.

Given that, instead of pointing out the problems He already knows and is working on, we should pray for all people and for national and world leaders, upright or unprincipled, and give thanks for them. That’s our part; not the judging, not the armchair quarterbacking. The government is upon the Lord’s shoulders, not ours. We may say we are just concerned, but our concern would be better served if we trust and obey Him. There’s no other way to be happy in Jesus.
